My Creative Space

When Noli is here, we share a creative space -- it's my office/library/computer room/guest bedroom and now, Noli's space too! She's now calling it "my room." Uh-oh. But this is where I work on my stuff while she plays with toys or watches something on Sprout or plays a "peter" game (computer in Noli-eese). I can interact with her and still get a little done. (Emphasis on "little") :)
This yarn is from a project that I had to frog (wasn't working right at all) and rewound on my handy dandy yarn winder. Love it!!

So now it's becoming a lacy scarf. I can't work on it when Miss N. is around since I have to really follow the instructions.

OK this picture just moved and I don't know why. But this is something I can work on when she's around -- a kid's granny square scarf and hat. The stripes part is the hat -- it has four grannies around the top and four pom-poms! (for which I will just HAVE to get a pom-pom maker because I can't make them to my satisfaction using cardboard...) The scarf will have fringe on the ends.

I made this set for Noli for Christmas before last and it's still looking good. I thought I would make another for my little Etsy shop.

Whoops! Gotta go! The ever energetic Miss N. is here!Posted by Picasa

Is the third time really the charm?

This will eventually be a cowl, I hope. I've had more silly trouble with this and it's such an easy pattern. Just basically double and half double crochet. What could be simpler?

Yesterday I got about 10 inches of it done and about a skein and a half used, and then (oh no, couldn't have been sooner, oh no) I checked it for size. And it was HUGE! So after much deliberation and gnashing of teeth, I pulled it all out. And started again. Got the chain twisted when joining into a circle. Started again. Got the chain twisted. Started again... what's the matter with me, I said. I answered, just put it down and start again tomorrow.

So I did and it seems to be going OK. But this is all I've gotten done today. A visit from my sweetest granddaughter happened and crochet did not happen. I'll work on it more tonight, and hopefully, it will begin to resemble a cowl!
I have no idea why the typing is ending up like this - it's coming from the right and I can't seem to change it. Weird.
OK, onward and upward. Tomorrow's another day and all that... :)Posted by Picasa

Warm and Wooly Scarves!

I recently added a couple of yummy scarves to my Etsy shop.

This neckwarmer is thick, warm and fuzzy! It has a small slit so the other side can go through it and it won't fall off.

The second one is a twirly scarf that is so soft you won't believe it! It's made with Lion Brand Homespun and self-stripes all the way down.

I love the way it ripples and ruffles.

That's my lovely daughter modeling for me.

And this is her being her goofy self!

It was a warm day and she wasn't too keen on me continuing to take pics...

Philosophy Time

Yesterday he was sleepin' with the ladies.

Today he's in the company of Hermann Hesse and is planning on reading a little light Sophocles.

What a cat!

Sleepin' with the Ladies

When Noli left last night, she "put her dollies to bed." I didn't really look at them until this morning when Oliver was all curled up cute amongst the babes.

So here I give you, Oliver, sleepin' with the ladies. And one horse.

My Place and Yours: On the Shelf

Oh what fun!! A brand new play-along!!

So, what's that on my shelf? It's the baker's rack in my kitchen and I particularly like these two shelves (the others are more utilitarian and house such things as a garlic pot, a banana holder, a wooden bowl for fruit, and the like.) But these are my fun ones and all have special meanings.

The cookie jar was a special aunt's and needs to be filled with cookies as we speak.

The cutting board was made by my son in high school and I love it -- can't bear to use it so it sits in its special place.

The copper watering can is just because I like it.

The wooden things were brought back from Holland by my brother -- they are for mixing and whipping -- I've used them but mostly just for fun.

The old irons are from both sets of grandparents -- the big one opens to put coal in it and has a little knob in front in the shape of a lion!

And the best: my little kitchen stove from childhood -- I fixed many a "meal" on it!!

The tail on the right belongs to Sam the cat -- he decided he was hungry and came over to dine. I like his tail. And him, too, of course.

Go here for more shelves (and thanks Pip for the fun new meme!)

Furry Caterpillar in the Yard!

A couple of days ago, Noli came in carrying a weed with something fuzzy, furry on it...
Fortunately, she didn't touch it because it turned out to be, not a cute little caterpillar, but a STINGING one, and the sting can hurt for several days. It's called a "Puss Caterpillar" because of it cute furriness. Sneaky caterpillar, looking so sweet. But if you get stung, it looks like its bottom in the shape of a shoe.

When she was leaving that evening, we put it outside so it could find its mommy and go to sleep...

Yikes! It is kinda cute, though.

I Got Linked!!

I received an email from someone who writes a national candy column for Examiner.com -- she had just written an article on National Candy Corn Day and included a link to my candy corn baby hat!! (among other really neat handcrafted candy corn stuff).

To read the article, go here and have a look at all the stuff she found (all from Artfire). Here's my hat; it's on both Etsy and Artfire. (I'm no. 4 on her list -- you have to scroll down a bit.)
Anyway, I'm excited to be included!!!

Have You Seen This??

Probably - it's been all over the internet, like here and here .

But, did you know there is actually a PATTERN for this loveliness? Check it out on Spotlight Australia. It's the first one and is a free, downloadable pattern!

I think it's definitely better without the extra sleeve...

My Creative Space - well, not exactly... (and a freebie cross-stitch to finish)

You may remember this cross-stitch from here . I haven't gotten very far on it in a month.

This is a picture of it finished (in the pattern book).
I was making it for a charity I stitch for that makes blankets for children with terminal and life-long illnesses. You can check them out here. Anyway, each blanket has a deadline and there was no way I was going to make it this time. That's bad enough, but I really began to dislike the pattern and I know that I will never finish it, even for another child. I feel so guilty about this, but I've been talking long and hard to myself and have decided that I will just begin another one with no deadlines (where you don't sign up for a specific child) and go on with life. Also, I have a crochet blanket destined for Project Linus so I will finish up the loose ends (literally) on it and take it to my drop-off place.
Sorry this is so depressing, but I just feel so bad about it. I had decided that I would definitely, absolutely stitch for any child from Texas, and of course this one is -- so there you go, even more guilt...
Hey! I just had an idea -- if anyone reading this would like to finish it, I'll be happy to send it and a copy of the directions to you. It's on 14 count Aida, cut to 13"x13". I should add that I was only going to make the part with the fish bowl and the one cat on the right side so it would fit into the dimensions needed by Love Quilts. The fish bowl part is all half cross stitch. (You'll have to provide your own thread, however...)
Anyway, if you'd like it, please email me via the address on my profile page.
OK, time to get moving again. I'm going to go crochet some scarves and neck warmers for the shop. And then, very soon, start another cross-stitch.
