Shipping Assistant Oliver

>^.^<

Hewwo, Oliver here. I have taken over Mommy's blog today to tell you about my new job.... In addition to being King Kitty and Boss around here, I am also Chief Cat Shipping Assistant (CCSA for short). I have many duties and am well paid in kitty treats!

I hold down the boxes from the Post Office
and make sure they don't fall off the bed

Extra benefit.... they are a good place for a nap

I hold down the regular boxes and make sure they don't fly away.
There are more boxes in the closet,
but Mommy won't let me in there.
(I don't know why 'cause all I do is cat nap)

The box stack is also a great place for a nap

I inspect the inside of boxes and make sure all the paper stuff is out

Hey, quit looking at my tush
CCSA's are private kitties

Mommy got a new printer thingie
so I have to make sure she got all the pieces parts out of the box

Very good! Everything is out!

Also a good place for a nap

My most important CCSA job
is to watch for the Post Person to come by

And for all this work, I get kitty treats! Meowzer!
(Plus lots of good napping places, heh heh)

If you have a kitty, put him to work as a CCSA,
he will reward you with purrs.
I guarantee it.

Relaxing

Just couldn't resist this for the letter R....

Bear, in a state of total relaxation....
tail carefully guarding a favorite play-stick....

But always on the lookout

Isn't he handsome (or maybe she's pretty, I don't know)
with that floofy tail!

 >^.^<

I, of course, accidentally scuffed my shoe on the patio and Bear heard it.... cats can hear everything, can't they! I wish s/he'd use that floofy tail to sweep up the leaves around the shed steps. You just can't get a cat to pay rent.... ha!

Oliver Speaks

Hewwo, Oliver here.

I read (yes, I can read.... don't tell!) with kitty amusement, the post that my hooman mommy wrote about the TUNA... nom nom nom. She just doesn't get it.... I can hear that can opener from a mile away and if I even think it might be the fabulous tuna, I go running.

But every morning I get the same thing, even though I run to my bowl, hoping hoping hoping that it's TUNA. But no, it's kitty foods. And she wonders why I just sit there, staring at my bowl.

Part of the time I'm sitting there staring because I don't like hoomans to watch me eat. I'm funny that way. But the other part of the time I'm waiting to see if I get any TUNA.

Another thing I do that she thinks is funny
is eat from the far away side of my bowl.

Somekitties step in their bowl to get to the other side, but I have
very good kitty manners and just stretch my neck out.

What I'd really like to know is why I have blue chickens on my water bowl. And why it says Chicken Soup. I'm not drinking chicken soup, I'm drinking water. Kitties only like water, not chicken soup. So I don't need a bowl that says Chicken Soup when I'm drinking water. Duh.

Get it together, Mommy.

The Saga of Can Openers and Cats

A couple of nights ago hubby fixed chicken and wanted oven fried potato chunks with it. And broccoli. Now, mind you, we have a pretty good system -- he cooks and I chop and clean up. Well, I just wasn't in the mood to chop much and if we had both oven fries and broccoli, I would be chopping more than I cared to chop. Besides I have a love / hate relationship with broccoli -- it's one of my favorite veggies but I get tired of it quickly (very quickly...).

So out with the broccoli and in with a can of baked beans!! Now I only had to chop one thing and open the other (which is my other kitchen job -- hubby hates to use the can opener which is a hand-held one).

Wait! I think I have too many kitchen jobs!!

But I digress... the real subject of this post would be the bestest cat boy ever.... Oliver!

As I am chopping and can opening, in runs Oliver at a gallop...

He starts that winding around your legs thing that cats do. Around and around, in and out, tail hooking around my legs, light brushes with the fur. I'm thinking What on earth does this silly cat want? I check and there's plenty of food in his bowl... plenty of water. He only gets treats when I say "Treat!" and has never asked for them. Hmmm... what on earth?

And then it hits me. It's the can opener! Which is weird since it's a hand-held one and doesn't make noise. But noise enough for a cat apparently, because I see no reason why he would want beans! And hubby hadn't started the chicken....

So, back up a few weeks.... the only time I give Oliver any people food is when we have tuna.

I give him a little of the tuna water to lap up straight from the can (my can opener leaves the edges so they could only cut softened butter) and maybe a teeny tiny bit of tuna. Oliver always runs in when I open a tuna can so that's understandable. He doesn't run in when I open a can of green beans or black eyed peas or something. But baked beans?? Apparently so!

So all that winding around my legs stuff? My guess is that he remembered the can opener and was hoping for a tidbit of tuna!

Smart kitty.

Oliver says, Is that all there is???
and what happened to my ears??
Oh the indignity of it all...

Blue Jay Steals Cat Food!

I noticed a blue jay swooping around the yard and he landed on the outside kitties food bowl and helped himself!

I grabbed my camera but, naturally, he zoomed off before I could get a shot. I guess he had eaten enough kibble! I was able to get a few sketchy shots of him as he flew from bowl to lawn mower to tree to more tree to back fence....

I would gladly pay him in worms and kitty food if he'd make use of that lawnmower on the grass!

Hiding in the tree...
He was fun to watch as he kinda leaped, kinda flew from branch to branch!

Flew to the back fence and then took off

Patio says she was not very thrilled to share her food....
but wouldn't mind sharing a meal with Mr. Blue Jay...
if you know what I mean....

Gifts for Noli

First of all, let me wish each of you a very Happy New Year! I hope your secret wishes come true this year, and that all your resolutions are kept. Me, I don't make resolutions.... I just try to keep up with life as it is! If I make resolutions, they are usually broken in the first ten minutes so I've stopped making them. Ha! :p

Secondly, I can't believe I haven't blogged since early December! And that wasn't even me, it was Oliver!

Kitty interlude... Hewwo, Oliver here. I blog whenever I can sneak it in! I'm wishing all the kitties out there (and I know there are lots of you) a Happy Kitty New Year with lots of treats all year long!

Good grief, that Oliver. Snags my computer whenever possible....

Well, anyway, back to the letter G for Alphabe-Thursday. I seem to have missed D, E and F! Heck, I didn't even do much blog reading, much less blog writing! But I think I'm back in the saddle again!

Gifts for Noli.....

Every Christmas and/or birthday (they are close together with only two months in between) I crochet something special for Noli. It started with foodies for her play kitchen when she was two and went on to include crochet stuffed animals, a little doll, a kitty with carrier (Oliver's lady love), various hats, scarves and fingerless gloves.

So one day Noli was rooting around in the closet where I keep the clothes she has at my house (everything goes back and forth between her house and mine), and found a hat and scarf set I had made her several years ago. The hat could stretch and still fit but the scarf was really little. No matter, she took it back with her. She found another hat -- bomber style -- and asked where the scarf was for it. I told her I had only made the hat, no scarf for it.

Bomber hat made for Christmas 2011

An idea blossomed! I knew I had leftover yarn from the bomber hat so I hunted around, found it, decided on a pattern. The very day that I started it, Stephanie called to say that they would be stopping by in a bit.... so I gathered up the yarn and put it away.... never to be found again!! I have yet to find the darn stuff! I really hid it good! (Don't laugh, I know you hide stuff from yourself too...)

~~~ March 14, 2014 update.... I'm adding this post to the blog hop over at God's Growing Garden where the theme for March includes Rainbow Colors!! ~~~
Scarf made Christmas 2013
So, once the idea of making a scarf got in my head, I knew I'd have to make one for her, matching hat or not. I decided on a rainbow scarf and found a cute pattern that had a heart on one end and clouds on the other. Perfect!
Naturally, I started this scarf the day before we were to get together at Stephanie's and finished it just before we walked out the door to go -- literally.
Noli loved it and wore it the whole evening. Over a yellow top of Stephanie's that Noli wears as a dress!
"Oh, kind sir, you are my knight in shining armor"
(for some reason this is said in a very Southern accent...)
I also got these prince and princess magnetic paper dolls for her. Aren't they cute?
OK, they're not crochet but read on and the explanation will become clear...
"Oh sir, what have you brought me from today's hunt?"
"Oh dear sir, we are in our undergarments..."
"But we can hide in this lovely bag -- I know it is ours because of the crown adornment"
Yup, I can play paper dolls with the best of them!!
The clothes are separated into tops and bottoms so you can make up as many different styles as you want. They came with a storage bag but it was a cheesy plastic -- and I wanted something better for Miss Noli!
I include a muslin storage bag with my crochet foodies that I sell in my Etsy shop -- I crochet a little matching applique and sew it onto the bag to cutie it up. I decided to do the same thing for Noli's paper dolls -- and crocheted a princess crown with pink sparkly cotton yarn and sewed it on. Much, much better than a yucky old plastic bag!
So those were my crocheted Noli gifts for this year. I'd make things for her sooner than the day of.... but I'd probably just lose them somewhere....  In a place that only the sneaky crochet thief knows.
Hmmm, do you think that thief is.... gasp.... Oliver ?
Cats Alike
Hewwo, Oliver here... Mommy's been doing that hooky, yarny thing with a cat kitty that looks just like me!
But LOOK WHAT SHE DID!!
Meowzer! It's in pieces parts! Do you think she'll do the same thing to me? But, since I'm the King Kitty and Boss around here, there's no way I'm letting her get me!
Oh wait a kitty minute here.... she must be practicing to be a kitty doctor 'case look what's happening to that yarny cat kitty.
I feel better now... that kitty has legs just like me. And a tail too. All attached! Whew! That was close -- I was scared for another kitty minute there.
A  long time ago Mommy made another cat kitty that looked like me, but she gave it away to that Noli girl for her birthday. She even got a purple carrier with it.
I thought maybe she'd make a purple carrier for me too, but no, she said she's not going to. I don't care anyway.... whenever I have to go the the kitty doctor I get to ride in mommy's lap, all wrapped up in a towel. It makes me feel safe so I don't want any old carrier anyhow. So the purple one can just be that other kitty's, I don't care. That Noli girl likes it. And she puts other stuff in it besides her kitty -- I saw her!
Don't you think this new kitty looks just like me?
Of course, I'm more handsome! Hey, wait a minute...
I want a heart patch too!
I think mommy said it was going in her shop, wherever that is.... I hope it's not too far away 'cause I want to play with my look-alike yarny cat kitty sometime!
