Peter, Paul, and Mary.... and Puff

Do you know Puff the Magic Dragon?

Whether the song, a book, the original movie, or an updated version, I think everyone must know Puff and little Jackie Paper.  I remember watching the movie with my kids and, of course, singing the song -- which was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary, and made popular by that group.

This is a performance where they are singing "Puff....."
and the audience is participating.
I love the expression of the little girl they show at the first -- her look when she recognizes the song is so sweet!

and here's the original movie if you'd like to see!

Originally written and performed by Bob Dylan in 1962, "Blowin' in the Wind" was covered and made famous by Peter, Paul and Mary in 1963.

"If I Had a Hammer" was originally written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays in 1949 in support of the progressive movement. Peter, Paul and Mary recorded it in 1962.

Although Mary passed away in 2009, Peter and Paul (now going by his full name, Noel Paul) are still touring and singing those wonderful folk songs.

♥♥♥  Linking Peter, Paul and Mary.... and Puff.... over at Miss Jenny's for Alphabe-Thursday where we are studying the letter P.

You've brought back such lovely memories - many thanks!

They don't make them like Peter, Paul and Mary (and Puff) any more!!

I loved the tv special where Peter explains in sing-song that Puff was never meant to imply illegal inhalants of any kind but rather a tribute to a boy and his dragon.

My mother is a huge fan, so I grew up with all their music. I love it! In fact I named goat triplets Peter, Paul and Mary last year. :-)

Puff the Magic Dragon was my brother's favorite song way back when. And I love Peter, Paul and Mary -- remember those songs very well. If I had a hammer, I'd hammer in the morning, I'd hammer in the evening, all over this land. :) Now that's music you aren't embarrassed to let your kids listen to. The lyrics these days can be so vulgar and literal. I sometimes find myself quickly changing the radio station (of course, we only have a couple here so not much to choose from). Have a fabulous Friday. Tammy

I just watched Puff and then shared it with my brother by email. Why do I always cry when a group of people break out into joyful singing? :)

I love "Puff the Magic Dragon". Only problem...it always makes me cry, because for so many, it's the end of childhood magic and innocence. Then there are people like me who never grow up. Wonderful blog.
