Zipping Through the Air!

So, would you ride a zip line? Way up in the air, suspended from a wire? Just a harness between you and certain death?

Um, not me! But that's what popped into my mind when thinking of a Z letter! Hard to believe we're at the alphabet's end and will start a new round of AlphabeThursday next week!

I knew my son had ziplined (zip lined? zipped? Not sure what's the correct terminology in the world of flying through the air...) so I went thumbing through his FB pics and found a couple and lifted them! (He won't care!)

Back in 2007, Adam went on his first out-of-the-country trip which was also his first by-himself-on-his-own vacation. And what a trip it was! A trek starting and ending in Cancun, Mexico and visiting various places in Central America -- camping, hiking, horseback riding, snorkeling, visiting Mayan ruins, meeting other trekkers from around the world, seeing places he might never have, eating exotic food -- what a great trip for a young man! He was in his late 20's and I was so excited for him to be a part of this trek!

looks like a trekker....

So, out of his zillion and one photos, I found the zip line ones...

Yikes!

note that blue sign with the Mayan temple!

Adam's in the center back

 Where they were...

Tikal, in Northern Guatemala

Adam said these was one of his favorite Mayan cities with its "beautiful sunsets and sunrises, Howler monkeys and.... terrible food"

The Grand Plaza

Temple of the Great Jaguar

more temples

This is just a tiny part of his trip -- he was gone for a couple of weeks or so and visited Mexico and the Central American countries of Guatemala, Honduras and Belize.

However, this post is supposed to be about zip lining, soooo.....

Have fun on the longest zip line in Texas!! (about an hour from Dallas)

Hmmm, I'm thinking I won't be doing this anytime soon!

How about you?

It seems like a pretty cool trek! I haven't actually zip lined, not for real, but there are options all over Hawaii. My main reason for not having done it is the price!

One of my neighbors installs zip lines for a living. I'm WAY too chicken to try one though...

Looks like fun but not sure I'd follow through and ever do it!

I would do it! But husband would never permit it! The ride your son took looks wonderful, such beautiful scenery below but must say that one in Texas just looks long and boring! I don't think I would take the risk just to do it -- it would have to be somewhere really cool like your son did!

What a dare devil! I don't know if I would ever have the guts to do it.

Ay-yi-yi!! I don't even like crossing bridges! I would be absolutely terrified to zip line!!
Looks like Adam enjoyed it, though!

Very cool, and yes I would go! I have always wanted to zip line but haven't been where one was available.

that looks like fun. I've always wanted to try a zip line, but heights and I don't get along well, :0)

I don't have the courage of traveling long distance by myself. But zipping, I would do that! {:-D

Yipes! I love flying in an airplane, but never on one of those zip lines.

I think it looks like fun!
but so far I've been rather chicken to try it. I have a friend who ziplined in Costa Rica and broke her ankle. Another friend knows of someone who broke something ziplining in a foreign country. So if I ever do zipline, it will be in the good ole USA.
What a fabulous trip that must have been for Adam!
(I'm hoping to go to Belize someday--maybe next year.)

That is so low on my list of priorities. I don't like heights! I'll never be on The Amazing Race because it seems like they always do at least one zip line or something where they're dangling in mid air.

Great to see your son's Zippy shots - and I know I won't try that out either (neither will I try jumping out of an airplane as my DIL for her 30th.) Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment today.

I salute the brave souls who are willing to zip along on those lines. I'm definitely not one of them!

Looking Forward to Your Visit at The Blue Door

Hi Sarah,

Oh, if I were a few years younger, I'd love to do it; however, not these days. Thanks for sharing this interesting post.

Have a Happy Blue Monday!

Great photos! Our youngest daughter did a zip line in Las Vegas across the downtown area at night with all the lights shining bright. Thanks for sharing.

I'm too much a titty baby to zip but when our family took a cruise, somewhere in Mexico, they all ziplined and said it was sooo fun. Hubs and I stayed on the ground.:)

Quite a choice for a first-out-of-the-country trip! Oh my.
